i just watched Twighlight with my sister, now I’m at Seattle’s doing some people watching.

does anyone of you know how corn is made into popcorn? hey! don’t google it! i have always thought that popcorn is just the same old corn cooked in popcorn machines. i remember that one time i tried heating a regular corn kernel and it didn’t pop. after some research, i found out that popcorn is really a different breed of corn that pops. even more interesting about it is that, there is only one breed that pops – zea mays everta (scientific name).

popcorn was originally discovered by native americans, now it is one of the most common snacks in US especially in movie houses. the popcorn kernel, unlike most breeds of corn, has a very hard outer shell that encloses the oil and starch inside. when heated at a certain temperature, the pressure of the cooking starch and oil builds up inside the shell until it pops! and voila! popcorn!

new ways have been developed to improve the breed of popcorn but… who would have guessed that popcorn is really natural? i know the topic is kinda elementary but I’ll bet my 10 bucks you did not know this at first. ha ha. anyhow, time for us to go home.
