My friend and I decided to venture on a new online business that has a huge potential in the market right now and little competition at the moment. It’s going to be a comprehensive directory list of most searched people in our country (sorry, I can’t give too much detail or you’ll probably steal our idea 0:p ).
The only problem is… promoting a new directory online is tough, especially since competitor directories don’t want to list the site. This makes it hard to get links from potential hub sites. I did some research and found some helpful tips on how to promote a new online directory:
- Promote your directory via signature links on dofollow forums.
- Social bookmark your new directory with top SMO sites like StumbleUpon and Delicious. Although some of these sites are nofollow, do take note that they do result in wide venues to attract traffic.
- Offer an incentive to generate new listings such as a waiver of the initial directory fee for the first 90-days. After all, people love freebies or bargains.
- Lastly, submit a press release announcing your new directory. Don’t forget to use a hook to set your directory apart from your competitors.
That’s it! Hope this helps.
