I was in a computer shop earlier when I came across this pretty lady who was looking for some PC parts for her PC. Well of course I did not want to miss the chance so I talked to her (you know, friendly advice stuff). She asked me which is better for a home theater set up: an HTPC (home theater PC) or just buy a hard disk media player. It was not that easy to answer right on so… we decided to discuss it over a cup of coffee. Nosebleed!
In summary, an HTPC and a media player both have their pros and cons. A media player like popcorn hour A-110 for instance can play HD movie files, music files, picture files and even download from the internet though not as fast as a PC. HTPC’s however can do all that, provided you have decent video cards installed in it. Plus it can do more because it’s a PC! The problem is, using an HTPC just to view pictures over your 40 inch LCD in not a good idea. Why? Because an HTPC will consume more power and generate more heat – inefficient so to speak. So the answer really boils down to “what do you need the device for”. She seems satisfied with my answer and decided to get an HTPC. She thanked me with a calling card that says:
