Learning and Education Blog

About

This is a learning and education blog that tackles subjects that are related to, but not exclusive of, learning, education, personal growth, spirituality, literature, arts, society, school, books, and living.

A couple of weeks ago, a friend called me up from Hongkong, telling my that the phone of my dreams costs only half the price there. Of course, without much hesitation I said, “well if the phone has international warranty then get me one and I’ll pay you when you get back”. He hung up, asked the salesperson and called me up. “Yes, chinese guy said the phone has international warranty”. So there. a few days later, we met and I got my new Galaxy Pro phone. However, a couple of days later, the backspace button seem to stuck up when I press it. It was clearly a factory defect.
So, I went to a service center to have it repaired. The service guy said that it probably just needs cleaning and it will cost me fifty bucks. So I showed the receipt with an international warranty indicated. But then here is the thing, the service guy said that the warranty is only limited to countries included in the international warranty slip. I looked it up and I was just depressed. Iraq, Ukraine, Bahrain, and the rest of the “raine” countries were indicated except for the US.
So I ended up with a broken phone.
I did not pay the fifty bucks because I thought it was outrageously overpriced. So what I did was just traded it online with a new HD7 and added cash. So now I am happy. Although it really messed up my budget getting a luxurious phone.

Startup

October 2nd, 2011

A friend of mine is considering starting up a company and she’s looking for small business equipment leasing. If you have anything to recommend please feel free to comment on this post and tell me. It would be greatly appreciated, because I’m not very good at these things, and I can only rely on the world wide web and my best friend, Google, if not the readers of this blog.

I really want to help her because I know she’s been saving up for this since she started working. I admire her for knowing what she wants to do in life, because up until now I’m really not so sure myself.

I wish I was six again. Not caring about anything else but Barbie Dolls, Legos and Polly Pockets! Things were so easy back then, and simple.

Sorry, I’m muttering random things to myself again, aren’t I? Haha! Okay, okay I’ll stop now.

Daily Spa Needs

September 21st, 2011

My mom has been addicted to spas for the longest time. Imagine her surprise when I took her to Ace Water Spa. It’s this spa that’s made of water, they use pressure points for therapies on various points in the body. It was nice, really, I got to bond with my mom while enjoying the massage.

She’s looking for dead sea mud at the moment, and since I’m not really a big fan of spas and applying weird stuff in my body, I need your help, my dear readers! Do you know what and where I should get it for a good deal? I usually wouldn’t give in to my mom’s pestering regarding spas and other luxurious stuff, but I heard that dead sea mud has a lot of benefits, especailly for the skin.

I haven’t really been a big fan of my skin. It has huge pores and my face tends to get very oily, so I, too, am interested in this dead sea mud thing.

My mom

September 19th, 2011

There comes a time when a person’s health starts deteriorating because they reached this certain age where their body slows down development and the immune system decreases. I believe now is the time for my mom’s health to deteriorate, and I am beginning to worry. She’s been having these random chest pains, and I’m having her checked this weekend.

I want to be prepared in case anything happens, so I am looking for life insurance online. Are there any that you wish to recommend? I’m afraid I can hardly decide when I’m too emotional like how I am right now.

I tried listening to music to calm me down, but it’s not working. I don’t want to lose my mom just yet. I want her to be there when I get married and give birth to my kids so she can snuggle them and toss them in the air!

The Little Things

September 10th, 2011

I have made a list of things that fascinate me.

Most of the things that fascinate me are related to food. A few of these examples are pasta, root beer floats, pizza, polvoron, and blueberry cheesecakes.

Other things that never cease to amaze me are authors and their literary masterpieces. Neil Gaiman, Haruki Murakami and Paulo Coelho are a few of my favourite authors. You should check them out!

I find other random things strange but awesome, as well. iPods, atv winches, satellite tv, wakeboarding and PS3s are the ones I can mention off the top of my head.

I like noticing little things, they keep me sane from all the stress I get in my work environment and daily living, so I take the time to take a break and look at what’s happening around me from time to time.

You should try it!

Attending two parties at once

September 8th, 2011

Tomorrow is a very special day for two of my friends. Both of them are celebrating their children’s christening . I was of course invited to come and I am so excited. However when I checked the invites, I saw that both events start at eight in the morning. Oh I forgot to mention that these friends of mine are not acquainted with one another. One is a childhood friend and the other one I met in my former company. Here is now my dilemma. How could I attend both parties at the same time?

Simple, I will just drop by both parties, give my gifts, take pictures and fake an emergency phone conversation with my boss. I could not think of any way to get a rain check so I guess I will just stick with that. I know it is lame but I do not want my friends getting jealous of one another or I might  end up having issues with both of them. The important thing anyway is I was there for their christening celebration.

I am really starting to love my iphone “fake call” app right now.

Trying out gardening

August 27th, 2011

The story started a month ago when I suddenly felt depressed for some reason I could not identify. I do not really know what happened. One day I just got up feeling tired and I did not want to go to work or basically do anything. I thought it was just one of those “lazy days” but then days went by and I was still feeling the depression.

So I took a week off at work. I tried the relaxing spa, did some running with friends, bought some new shoes and even cut my hair. It felt good at first but every time I get home, I start feeling the depression again.

Until one day, as I was watching TV, an ad popped up demonstrating a cool new way to plant vegetables in the garden. Then I realized, the reason why I am depressed is that there is nothing new on my life anymore. It has been a cycle for the past few years and I guess my mind is starting to get sick of it. And so, I need to get a hobby.

I bought a “for dummies” ebook about gardening. Read it and started buying my supplies. Some 10 inch pots, a big bag of soil-less mix, some lapel pins and a pack of lettuce and tomato seeds. I just put some soil in the pot, sow seeds and sprinkled some water. Now it is mother nature’s turn to work.

The hardest thing about gardening is waiting. Seeds just do not grow that fast. You need to be patient. But this is one great thing about gardening. It gives you something to look forward to every day.

Now, a month later, my lettuce grew so much already. In a couple of weeks they are ready for harvest. The tomatoes though will need a couple of months before they can bear fruit (at least according to the manual). As for my depression, I could not remember when it disappeared. I guess I just needed something new in my life.
