Our trusty old laptops probably have slowed down after another year of work. Good thing we could still speed ‘em up by following these simple tips:
Cleaning up the trash – this is probably the simplest way to speed our Notebooks. Deleting old unnecessary files can free up some space in your disk. The more free space, the more virtual memory can be used by the operating system, therefore speeding up your PC. Burn old files to a DVD for safekeeping if you’re not yet sure if you want to delete the files.
Doing a virus sweep – viruses, malware, scripts and worms can really slow down your system. If you haven’t done a full system scan for a long time, I suggest you do now. Just make sure you’ve updated your antivirus software before doing the sweep. You’ll never know if you have been breeding viruses in your computer!
Upgrading the notebook memory – this is probably the cheapest yet most significant upgrade you can give your laptop (There’s not much upgrade you can do anyway). If you’re thinking of buying a new hard disk, you may do so, but it won’t do much in terms of speed. In this era of memory intensive software, an additional gigabyte of RAM will really boost your system.
Following those steps will certainly make your laptops perform like new. No need to shop for a new one yet unless you really want to brag about it.
